Bill Pushes Medicinal Marijuana In New York

1010 WINS

ALBANY, N.Y. A Republican lawmaker has introduced a bill in the state Senate to legalize marijuana for medical use. Senator Vincent Leibell from Putnam and Dutchess County says the measure would let doctors prescribe marijuana to patients with life-threatening, degenerative or permanently disabling conditions.

Leibell tells the New York Post the controversial bill is not decriminalization of pot, just an exception for ``a narrow part of the population under closely controlled medical standards.

''The bill in the Republican-controlled state Senate differs slightly from one in the Democrat-controlled Assembly.

But Leibell and Assembly Health Committee Chairman Richard Gottfried, a Manhattan Democrat, plan to hold a bipartisan news conference on the issue tomorrow -- along with T-V talk show host Montel Williams.
Williams is prescribed medical marijuana by a California doctor to help deal with his multiple sclerosis. Last year, he urged Governor Pataki and Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno to follow the ten states that have legalized marijuana for medical purposes.

wow, a 3rd state now.
just recently i've seen bills like this being pushed in Missouri and Illinois.. wonder what the chances are of any of them actually being approved (probably slim to nil i'm betting)
here's hoping NY, MO, and IL can all soon join the ranks with the rest of us over on the Medical Marijuana forums

I've suffered from a degenerative nerve disease for many years, and I mean I've really suffered. I gobbled pain killers by the dozen--they helped at first, but eventually the edge of pain was like a knife cutting through my body. I felt like screaming!

Luckily, I live in a jurisdiction where medicinal marijuana became legal in 2001. I begged my doctor to prescribe it for me. He was reluctant at first, but I did tons of research on the Internet and walked in and dumped it on his desk one day.

He sheepishly called the next day and said, "Alright, Sarah, if all these people are saying it's medicine, than it's medicine!" I breathe a sigh of relief, and immediately took my prescription to a compassion club and inhaled deeply, more than once.

The relief from pain was no less than miraculous. As if someone had removed a steel helmet from my head and metal bands from the rest of my body.

Unfortunately, these clubs get hassled by the feds a lot, so I decided to grow my own. I knew nothing about horticulture, so I went back to the Internet. I was extremely lucky--within a few weeks I found a company that specialized in helping medpot growers and made it possible for us novices to grow award-winning buds.

Hey, what's the name of the company, you say? Why, it happens to be Advanced Nutrients. They not only give you first class advice, but also provide you with an array of magical products that insure a bountiful harvest, each time.

I went organic some time ago, so I wanted to grow marijuana organically. They provided me with the tools to do just that. I will forever be grateful to them and highly recommend them to all fellow patients, who are licensed to grow medpot!

I hope that New York does legalize medpot one day, along with Illinois (where they are considering it) and the eleven states that have already seen the light and allow patients to light up!

As long as the people try to force their own sense of moral certitude on others this country will never truly be free. Why should one man force another not to smoke a glass pipe? Isn’t morality supposed to include respect and without respect for others freedom how can one truly be an American? Bravo Montel, Bravo.

We all need help sometimes and when I needed to know how to make methamphetamine. I knew there was somewhere I could turn.
