France makes biggest heroin bust in three decades

PARIS: France toay said it had seized heroin last week with a street value of 14.6 million dollars, its biggest heroin bust in more than three decades.

French customs officials found just over 305 kg of heroin hidden in 13 sports bags on a truck on its way to Britain from Turkey when they searched the vehicle at Dunkerque on February. 3.

''This latest haul on its own represents more than three-quarters of the total quantity of heroin normally seized by customs in a year,'' the ministry said in a statement. It was the biggest amount of the drug seized since 1972, it added.

The driver of the truck, a 32-year-old Turk, was arrested.
