Plan to free sons goes to pot, police say

Rocky Mountain News

Denver police arrested a man who they say was trying to sell marijuana to get enough money to bail his sons out of jail - on marijuana charges.

Police spokesman Sonny Jackson said that Oscar Garcia, 36, of Texas, was arrested on outstanding drug- trafficking warrants.

Jackson said the incident began when two teenagers were arrested on suspicion of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of burglary tools.

Their father had been arrested on narcotics charges in 2004 but had made bail and fled to Texas, police said. Jackson said that when the man heard that his sons had been arrested, he returned to Denver with marijuana to sell, apparently to free his sons, and was arrested.
