Forget cocaine, yeast smuggling hot in Colorado

abc news

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) - Yeast is now a no-no in the Mesa County, Colorado jail. Guards found two toothpaste tubes full of brewer's yeast someone was smuggling into stir. And no, there wasn't a budding Martha Stewart trying to bake bread behind bars. Sheriff Stan Hilkey says the yeast was most likely intended to make "jailhouse hooch." The yeast would have been used to ferment fruit juice to give it an alcohol kick. Hilkey says deputies are trying to determine who's responsible for the yeast smuggling.
